THE CRY OF A LONE WOLF

Donald Anthony Gentilcore
January 2004

As midnight falls; I was beckoned to the distant cry of
a lone wolf.
This was not the first time to take this path
into the woods; but it was the first time alone.

If I could just for one moment have you back
in my arms, I swear I would love you forever. My
heart is still waiting to heal from a heart that was torn
by despair. There I stood, all alone, except for the
distant cry of a lone wolf.

The moon rising from the mountain tops lit
up the campsite where we used to go. I got
down on my knees to light the fire; and now I
dropped to my knees in tears. I suddenly
turned around; hearing your voice, yet no one was
there. In a moments flash I thought I saw your face
but you just disappeared.

If I could just for one moment have you back
in my arms. I swear I would love you forever.
My heart is still waiting to heal from a heart that was
torn by despair. And all I could hear was the distant
cry of a lone wolf.

Your eyes, like midnight fireflies, light up the
pathway onto my sad heart.
There we were, two kindred spirits into the
night, loving each other with total embrace.
If only I could feel your love again. If only I
could feel again.

If I could just for one moment have you back
in my arms. I swear I would love you forever.
My heart is still waiting to heal from a heart
that was torn by AIDS. And all that you
left me were our memories and the distant
cry of a lone wolf.
